Mary Dubon

Mary Dubon, MD is a Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Specialist in the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital and an Instructor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. She practices both Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine and Pediatric Sports Medicine, making her uniquely qualified to address the needs of young athletes and patients with disabilities.

Dr. Dubon completed her undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame (2006), medical school at Albany Medical College (2011), internship at Saint Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center (2012), residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (2015), and fellowships in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital (2017) and Sports Medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago (2018).

Her research focuses on disability inclusion in sports, adaptive sports medicine, and care for performing artists with disabilities. She has published extensively on topics including physical activity for children with disabilities, autism and orthopedic care, dance medicine for performers with disabilities, and transgender athlete care. Her work demonstrates a consistent commitment to expanding sports opportunities for individuals with disabilities across the spectrum from grassroots to elite levels. She has also contributed important research on pandemic impacts on rehabilitation medicine training and virtual adaptive sports programming.

Dr. Dubon is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in General, Brain Injury Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, and Sports Medicine specialties. Her clinical approach emphasizes optimizing patients' time spent enjoying activities outside the clinic, addressing not just medical concerns but also functional, recreational, and vocational goals.

In her clinical practice, she examines not just the cause of injuries but also underlying risk factors such as muscle imbalances, creating treatment plans that help athletes become stronger than their pre-injury selves. Her background as a dancer (with a Dance minor) informs her specialized care for youth athletes and performing artists, while her advocacy experience drives her passion for caring for youth with disabilities and Para/adaptive athletes.
