Professor Mary Daly is a Professor of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Oxford's Department of Social Policy and Intervention (DSPI) and a Fellow of Green Templeton College. Her research focuses on social policy in OECD countries, particularly family policies, gender inequalities, care systems, poverty, and EU social policy. She has held leadership roles in academic evaluations, including the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 sub-panel and Vice-Chair of the Sociology sub-panel in 2014 and 2008.
Her work is supported by major funders such as the ESRC, EU, UN, and UNICEF. She has authored influential books like Gender Inequality and Welfare States in Europe (2020) and edited volumes on welfare and poverty. Her current projects include studying familial resilience in the 'new world of work,' care workers' orientations, and child-related policies during the pandemic.
