Mary Carroll is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University, affiliated with the Information and Communication Studies department. Her research focuses on libraries, books, and learning in contemporary and historical contexts, emphasizing equity and social inclusion. She has explored information services in vocational education, schools, and public libraries, including historical studies of Australia’s penal settlements. Her work also examines LIS education’s evolution since the 1930s. Dr. Carroll holds a PhD in Library and Information Studies from Charles Sturt University (2008).
Her research interests span library history, education policy, and the role of libraries in addressing social issues. Notable projects include the Knowledge Bank of Australian and New Zealand School Libraries (KBANZSL), a collaborative data repository. She has received awards such as the Charles Sturt 2020 Excellence Awards and the NCVER Early Career Research Grant.
Dr. Carroll actively engages in academic activities, including organizing conferences like the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) National Conference and delivering keynote addresses on professional resilience and librarianship. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and social equity.
