Dr. Mary Beth Pollema is an Associate Professor of Education at Dordt University, where she focuses on building culturally inclusive school-family connections, particularly for Latino communities, and fostering a sense of belonging in classroom environments. Holding a M.Ed from Dordt University (2014) and an Ed.D from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2021), her scholarly work includes her dissertation on Latino perspectives on family engagement in education.
- Current roles: Faculty Status Committee member, Multicultural Leadership Program cohort leader, faculty mentor, and Education Club sponsor.
- Community involvement: Leads biennial AMOR trips to Belize, serves on Sioux Center Christian School’s Board of Trustees, and volunteers as an interpreter at Kinsey Elementary.
- Prior experience: Taught elementary and high school in southwest Minnesota, Belize, and Prinsburg, Minnesota, with additional mission work in Michigan and Nevada.
Her research and teaching are deeply rooted in Christian values, emphasizing Christ-centered service, humility, and love as foundational to educational practices. She actively promotes these principles through campus roles like Community Outreach Coordinator and collaborations on service-oriented scholarship.
