Dr. Mary Berbee is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Botany at the University of British Columbia. Her research reconstructs fungal evolutionary history using molecular phylogenetics and fossil evidence to understand early fungal diversification.
Research areas include:

- Fungal colonization of terrestrial environments
- Diversification patterns across geological time
- Integration of fossil and molecular data
Her lab combines field collection of fungi with genomic analyses and paleontological studies. Recent work examines how fungi co-evolved with early land plants and adapted to changing environments over 400 million years.
