Marvin Slepian

Marvin Slepian is the Regents Professor of Medicine and Director of the Arizona Center for Accelerated Biomedical Innovation at the University of Arizona. As an affiliate faculty member in the College of Information Science, his work bridges biomedical engineering and clinical medicine. His research focuses on innovative medical devices, including polymeric heart valves and wearable health monitoring systems, with a particular emphasis on platelet biology, thrombosis prevention, and telehealth applications. He leads interdisciplinary teams to translate engineering advancements into clinical solutions, addressing critical challenges in cardiovascular care and remote patient management.

Research Interests: Dr. Slepian’s expertise spans biomedical device development, cardiovascular mechanics, and wearable sensor technology. His studies explore the mechanical and biochemical interactions between blood and medical devices, particularly in contexts like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and mechanical circulatory support. He also investigates novel therapies for pain management and diabetes complications, leveraging electromechanical innovations and digital health systems.
