Prof. Martine Maan is a Professor and Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen's Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences. Her research investigates evolutionary processes in cichlid fish systems, sensory ecology, and speciation mechanisms.
Research integrates field studies of African cichlid populations with molecular approaches to understand sensory adaptation, host-parasite coevolution, and visual system evolution. Current projects focus on opsin gene expression plasticity, parasite-mediated selection, and the role of visual signals in speciation.
Publications demonstrate expertise in evolutionary parasitology, molecular ecology, and adaptive radiation studies. Work combines experimental approaches with genomic analyses to uncover mechanisms driving biodiversity patterns in aquatic ecosystems.
