Sofia Martinaki is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, University of West Attica, with a focus on Clinical Social Work. She holds a PhD from the University of Ioannina (2013) and a PostDoc from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2021). Her academic career includes roles at TEI of Athens (2014–2018) and as adjunct faculty at the University of West Attica (2018–2022). She is also a research associate at the 1st Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Athens.
Her research interests span forensic social work, mental health in correctional settings, Roma discrimination, telepsychiatry, and disaster mental health. She has authored books, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, and serves as a reviewer for journals like Psychiatry Research and Frontiers in Psychiatry.
Dr. Martinaki’s work has been recognized with awards, including the 2020 Panhellenic Psychiatry Conference award and the 2016 European Social Work Research Conference award. Her teaching modules include Social Work in Mental Health, Forensic Social Work, and Health Care Practice Placement.
Her publications critically address stigma toward mentally ill offenders, telepsychiatry efficacy in prisons, and burnout among healthcare and education professionals. She actively participates in international conferences and contributes to anti-discrimination initiatives, including addressing Roma prejudice in Greece.
