Dr. Martina Navarro is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Health and the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences. She holds a PhD in Human Physiology (Neuropsychology) from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and the VU University Amsterdam. Her research focuses on human performance psychology, emphasizing perception, action, cognition, and emotion, with particular attention to the impact of anxiety and stress on decision-making and motor control.
Navarro’s work integrates ecological dynamics and nonlinear pedagogy, exploring how training strategies and environmental factors influence athletic performance. She collaborates with sports organizations and has contributed to projects on driver behavior, cycling biomechanics, and athlete development. Her recent studies include reimagining performance spaces in physical education and analyzing gaze behavior in Parkinson’s patients.
Her research outputs span over 20 articles in journals such as *Human Movement Science*, *European Physical Education Review*, and *Ergonomics*. She co-authored models for athletic skills development, emphasizing adaptable movement strategies. Navarro is part of the Centre for Integrated Health and Wellbeing, addressing health and wellbeing through interdisciplinary approaches.
