Martina Muckenthaler

Prof. Dr. Martina Muckenthaler is Head of Molecular Medicine at the Department of Paediatric Oncology, Hematology, Immunology and Pulmonology at Heidelberg University Hospital. She is also a group leader in the Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit (MMPU) between the University of Heidelberg and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). Her research focuses on iron homeostasis and its disruption in red blood cell diseases.

Her work explores regulatory mechanisms of iron metabolism, tumor microenvironment, and systemic iron disorders. She serves as President of the International BioIron Society and is a member of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina).
