Dr. Martin Ziegler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Utrecht University, specializing in Paleoclimate and Clumped Isotope Geochemistry. He leads the carbonate clumped isotope lab, focusing on reconstructing Earth's past temperatures through geochemical analyses of marine and terrestrial archives.
Education:
- PhD in Earth Sciences, Utrecht University (2009)
- Diplom (Master) in Geology & Paleontology, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (2005)
Research Interests: Clumped isotope geochemistry, stable isotopes, paleoceanography, and climate change. His work integrates field data with laboratory analyses to understand climate variability and its impacts, particularly through collaboration with the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP).
Awards: NWO-Vidi Fellowship (2016) for research on Cenozoic ice sheets and global warming using clumped isotopes.
Key Activities: Member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for ECORD and Dutch IODP contact. Active in organizing national geoscience conferences and international collaborations.
