Martin Severin Frandsen is an Associate Professor in urban development and planning at Roskilde University's Department of People and Technology, affiliated with the Mobility, Space, Place and Urban Studies (MOSPUS) research group and the Center for Action Research and Democratic Societal Change. His research focuses on citizen participation, disadvantaged urban areas, and sustainability in planning through theoretical, historical, and participatory action research approaches.
Teaching responsibilities include heading the Humanities and Technology Bachelor program (HumTek), instructing in urban planning modules (Plan, By & Proces), and supervising PhD candidates at the PhD School of People and Technology. He has contributed to transformative urban education through projects like the Urban Drama initiative.
Key projects include 'Urban Drama - Conflict and Participation in Urban Development' (2022–present) and the Community Center Gellerup initiative (2005–2007). His work addresses urban policy discourses, parallel communities critique, and co-creation processes in disadvantaged neighborhoods. He actively engages in academic networks through editorial roles in journals like Dansk Sociologi and Nordiske Udkast.
Publications span 50+ outputs including peer-reviewed chapters on Danish urban policy history, action research methodologies, and case studies of community development projects. His work intersects urban sociology, education innovation, and policy analysis with a focus on equitable urban futures.
