Martin Schäfer is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution (iomE), Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. His research focuses on plant interactions with biotic and abiotic environments, utilizing molecular biology, biochemistry, and field ecology. He holds a Dr. rer. nat. in Molecular Biology and a Diplom in Biology from Friedrich Schiller University Jena. His work explores phytohormones, primary/secondary metabolites, and defense mechanisms in plants. He is affiliated with the Xu Lab (Evolutionary Plant Sciences) and Huber Lab (Plant Evolutionary Ecology).
Recent studies include genome-wide association studies in duckweeds, transgenerational plasticity in plant defense, and herbivory impacts on plant fitness. His research bridges ecological and molecular approaches, addressing questions in plant adaptation and stress responses.
