Martin Scheinin is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Law at Lund University and a Part-Time Professor at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. His research focuses on international human rights law, with particular emphasis on climate change obligations, indigenous rights, disability rights in AI contexts, and Nordic legal frameworks. He holds an ORCID identifier (0000-0001-9511-0867) and collaborates extensively across international institutions.
Key research interests include the intersection of environmental policy and human rights compliance, legal protections for marginalized populations (Sámi communities, persons with disabilities), and the application of international law to emerging technologies. Recent work addresses state obligations under climate change frameworks and the implications of AI-driven decision-making processes under the CRPD.
He is a lead researcher in the 'Human Rights Law in the Nordic Countries' project (2024–2027), exploring regional jurisprudential trends. Notable activities include media commentary on Finland's landmine treaty withdrawal (April 2025), invited lectures on indirect discrimination (January 2025), and advocacy against cultural wars in research funding (January 2025).
