Martin Rechenauer is an Associate Professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies and the Chair of Philosophy and Political Theory. He is also associated with the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy since 2012.
He completed his Dr.phil in philosophy of mind at LMU Munich (1991), followed by Habilitation in 2004. His academic positions include research roles at Bielefeld University, guest professorships at Bayreuth, Freiburg, and Chemnitz universities, and Privatdozent at LMU.
His research focuses on foundational aspects of practical philosophy, including:
- Theories of justice and contractualist frameworks
- Rational choice theory (decision/game/social choice theory)
- Philosophy of probability and formal epistemology
- Historical development of social contract theory
- Applications in political philosophy and economics
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on justice frameworks, decision theory, and economic philosophy, with recent work examining aggregation in normative theories and preference structures in rational choice.
He serves as Assistant Editor for Springer's Theory and Decision Library Series A and has organized international collaborations including DAAD-funded partnerships with University of Helsinki.
At the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, he contributes to interdisciplinary research initiatives and co-organized the 6th Decision Games and Logic Workshop (2012).
