Martin Melaugh is a Research Fellow at Ulster University's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences within the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences. He serves as Director of CAIN (Conflict Archive on the Internet; cain.ulster.ac.uk), an associated project of INCORE and ARK (The Northern Ireland Social and Political Archive; www.ark.ac.uk), based at the Magee Campus in Londonderry.
His research specializes in Northern Ireland's post-conflict landscape, with core interests in victim commemoration practices, qualitative data archiving methodologies, and spatial visualization of conflict legacies. His interdisciplinary work bridges social policy, geography, and information systems to analyze societal transformation after violent conflict, particularly focusing on peace monitoring frameworks and memorialization processes in divided societies.
Melaugh's publications demonstrate consistent engagement with Northern Ireland's peace process since 2011, examining how conflict archives preserve testimonies, how commemorative landscapes shape collective memory, and how peace monitoring reports track societal progress. His work reveals an evolving focus from data management challenges in transitional societies toward spatial and immersive representations of victim experiences.
As Director of CAIN, he leads one of the most comprehensive digital archives documenting the Troubles, collaborating closely with INCORE and ARK to support researchers, policymakers, and communities engaged in conflict resolution and social cohesion initiatives across Northern Ireland.
