Dr. Martin McPhail is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Chemistry within the School of Field Investigations and Experimental Sciences at the University of West Georgia, affiliated with the Dr. Perry College of Mathematics, Computing, and Sciences. His office is located in the Technology Learning Center - Room 2125, with regular office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with online availability by appointment.
Dr. McPhail’s research focuses on the synthesis and application of nanomaterials for next-generation electronics and renewable energy, integrating principles from physical and inorganic chemistry. His lab investigates nanoparticle synthesis, surface chemistry, and self-assembly processes. He teaches a wide range of courses, including introductory chemistry (CHEM-1212 series), materials chemistry (CHEM-3201B, CHEM-4985), and advanced topics like inorganic chemistry (CHEM-4610) and senior capstone projects.
He coordinates the Chemistry program and oversees internships (CHEM-4086). His teaching extends to interdisciplinary courses such as XIDS-2002 (Materials That Make Our World), bridging chemistry with broader scientific applications.
Dr. McPhail actively advises students in his research lab and maintains a strong commitment to undergraduate research mentorship. No specific grants or awards are listed, though his contributions to materials chemistry are evident through his teaching and research activities.
He runs an active research lab focused on experimental techniques in materials chemistry and maintains an extensive course load across multiple academic terms, demonstrating his dual role as an educator and researcher.
