Martin McKown serves as an adjunct professor at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University and will transition to assistant professor in Fall 2025. He teaches foundational and elective courses including Legal Research and Writing, Business Associations, Energy Regulation, and Privacy Law, with a teaching philosophy centered on collaboration, clear communication, and excellence.
McKown holds a J.D. from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University (where he contributed to the Duquesne Law Review and Appellate Moot Court Board), an M.B.A. from Auburn University Harbert College of Business, and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Texas at Tyler.
His research and professional expertise spans Business Law, Energy Regulation, and Compliance frameworks, informed by a decade-long career advising Fortune 500 companies on regulatory adherence across state, federal, and international jurisdictions. He has developed policy frameworks, led compliance transformations, and advised executive leadership on strategic planning and risk management.
As a committed scholar, McKown has published in the George Washington Law Review Arguendo, University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy, Mitchell Hamline Journal of Public Law and Policy, and Duquesne Law Review. He additionally compiled a free open-source casebook on energy regulation to democratize legal knowledge access.
McKown actively mentors students through bar exam preparation and serves as a moot court coach, leading teams to national and international competition success with top brief awards and semifinal/final round advancements. His work directly contributes to the law school's sustained high bar passage rates.
