Dr. Martin Long is an Associate Professor in the Theoretical Physics group within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on frustrated antiferromagnetism and the Hubbard model. He has published over 50 scientific papers and is actively involved in postgraduate education, having supervised approximately 15 PhD students at Birmingham University. He currently co-leads the Midland Physics Alliance Graduate School.
Qualifications: BA, MA, PhD, MInstP (Member of the Institute of Physics).
Research Interests: Dr. Long’s work centers on theoretical and computational models in condensed matter physics, particularly exploring magnetic systems and strongly correlated electron systems. His contributions include seminal reviews on antiferromagnetic materials and the Hubbard model, which underpin modern understanding of quantum materials and phase transitions.
Education & Supervision: He has guided numerous graduate students through impactful research projects, fostering expertise in theoretical physics. His mentorship extends to collaborative initiatives like the Midland Physics Alliance, enhancing interdisciplinary training for early-career researchers.
Labs/Teams: Active within the Theoretical Physics research group at the University of Birmingham, contributing to both foundational and applied studies in condensed matter systems.
