Prof. Martin Klingenspor is a Professor of Molecular Nutritional Medicine at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on metabolic regulation, particularly the interplay between nutrition, energy expenditure, and mitochondrial function. He earned his PhD from Philipps University Marburg and conducted postdoctoral research in the U.S. before joining TUM in 2007.
Key research areas include energy balance mechanisms, brown adipose tissue thermogenesis, and gut microbiota interactions. Notable achievements include discovering secretin’s role in linking brown fat activation to satiation, advancing leptin therapy, and developing tools like Calopy for calorimetry data analysis.
He serves as Dean of Studies for TUM’s Faculty of Nutritional Sciences and holds the Else Kröner-Fresenius Endowed Professorship. Awards include the Promotional Prize for Young Scientists (2001) and leadership roles in DFG-funded initiatives. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications in obesity and metabolic disease.
