Martin Herchenröder is a Professor of Music Theory at the University of Siegen since 1994 and serves as a guest professor in the organ and composition departments at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, United States.
His research focuses on Music Theory and Composition, with an emphasis on practical application through student workshops and cross-cultural collaborations. He actively bridges academic and community contexts by integrating theoretical frameworks with real-world musical performance.
Prof. Herchenröder has cultivated significant international partnerships since 2008, most notably with composer Samuel Adler. This collaboration includes organizing biennial workshops for Siegen composition students, alumni events, and keynote speeches—such as Adler's 2009 Alumni Homecoming Day address delivered in Mannheimer German dialect.
- Key regional engagements include the German-American Society of Siegerland-Wittgenstein
- Cologne Amerikahaus cultural programming
- Joint concerts with institutions in Düsseldorf and Cologne
His work with Adler at Nikolaikirche exemplifies his interdisciplinary approach, combining synagogue music, 19th-century Protestant choir compositions, and theological discourse on Jewish-Christian relations.
