معرفی
Dr. Martin Hartmann is a Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science, ETH Zurich. His research focuses on microbial ecology, soil science, and molecular biology, particularly studying the soil microbiome's response to environmental changes to understand ecosystem functionality. He holds a PhD in Microbial Ecology from ETH Zurich and Agroscope (2007), followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia (2007–2011). He has served as a senior researcher at WSL (2015–2018) and currently leads research in sustainable agroecosystems at ETH Zurich.
Education
- PhD in Microbial Ecology, ETH Zurich & Agroscope (2007)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of British Columbia (2007–2011)
Research Interests
Dr. Hartmann investigates how anthropogenic and climatic drivers influence soil microbiome diversity and function. His work integrates molecular genetics and bioinformatics to address challenges in ecosystem management, including carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, and climate resilience. He emphasizes improving understanding of microbial life’s role in sustaining ecosystem services.
Professional Roles
- Editor-in-Chief, European Journal of Soil Biology
- Editorial Board Member, Frontiers in Terrestrial Microbiology and PeerJ
- Teaching Lead in High-Throughput Sequencing and Bioinformatics at international training schools
Labs/Teams
He contributes to the Sustainable Agroecosystems group at ETH Zurich, combining research and education in microbial ecology.
