Martin Gunter Kornejew is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Bocconi University, affiliated with IGIER and the IfW Macro Finance Lab. Before joining Bocconi in 2024, he earned his PhD from the University of Bonn and was a visiting PhD student at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Economics from universities in Bonn, Stockholm, Kiel, and Berlin.
His research focuses on corporate finance and macroeconomics, particularly the macroeconomic implications of corporate debt crises and bankruptcy institutions. Notable works include studies on credit cycles, corporate debt overhang, and central bank interventions during financial crises. He received the EFA Doctoral Tutorial Best Paper Award in 2023 for his work on market creditor protection.
In 2025, he will be a visiting scholar at Columbia Business School. His research integrates theoretical models with empirical analysis, addressing topics like creditor rights, public capital markets, and pandemic consumption behavior.
