Martin Gierus

Martin Gierus is a Professor at the Institute of Animal Nutrition, Livestock Products and Nutrition Physiology, Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). His work focuses on animal nutrition with emphasis on feed quality analysis, nutritional physiology, and feed additive effects in ruminant and monogastric systems. He has held this role since 2008, following postdoctoral and habilitation periods at BOKU.

Research Interests span ruminant nutrition, feed additive impacts, nutrient retention, and sustainable feed systems including insect meal and local protein sources. His studies often integrate thermal processing and fibre/nutrient interactions in gastrointestinal physiology.

Publication Trends reveal expertise in evaluating wood-lignans, grape extracts, and insect-based feeds for improving antioxidant capacity, digestibility, and animal health across broilers, pigs, and ruminants. Recent work focuses on heat stress mitigation and methane reduction.
