Martin Davies is an Associate Professor of Economics at Washington and Lee University's Williams School, specializing in international finance and development economics. His research focuses on exchange rate policies in resource-rich developing countries, with particular expertise in Papua New Guinea's economy. Professor Davies holds both master's and doctorate degrees in economics from the University of Oxford.
His primary research examines macroeconomic stability in resource-dependent economies, foreign exchange market dynamics, and strategies to mitigate the 'resource curse'. Current projects investigate exchange rate convertibility pathways and fiscal revenue models for commodity-exporting nations.
Professor Davies maintains active international collaborations, serving as a Visiting Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy at Australian National University since 2017. He has consulted for Papua New Guinea's Treasury Department and presented research at major financial institutions including the International Monetary Fund and Asian Development Bank.
In 2019, he was appointed Associate Editor of the Asia and the Pacific Policy Studies journal. At Washington and Lee, he developed the ECON 271 Peer Tutors program to enhance student learning in international finance through peer-supported instruction.
