Martin Chin serves as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry within the College of Humanities Arts and Sciences at the University of Northern Iowa, based in McCollum Science Hall (MSH 289). He can be contacted at (319) 273-7898 or martin.chin@uni.edu.
His academic credentials include a B.S. from Lehigh University (1989), and M.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1994) from the University of Rochester.
Dr. Chin's research centers on Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry, specializing in synthesizing organometallic complexes for small molecule activation and functionalization. He develops binuclear catalysts using doubly linked dicyclopentadiene ligands with robust carbon linkers to position dual metal centers, with current work focused on diruthenium complexes for catalytic C-H bond silylation.
He leads an active research group utilizing specialized laboratory equipment, mentoring current and former researchers as indicated by his team documentation. His lab maintains instrumentation for synthesizing and testing novel catalysts, supporting ongoing projects in molecular activation chemistry.
