Martin Byrne

Martin Byrne, R.S.H.M. was a Professor of Finance at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), serving from 1947 until her death in 1997. She held concurrent roles as registrar, treasurer, and volunteer cafeteria cashier at Marymount College (1947–1968), fostering close student relationships. A trailblazer, she earned UCLA's first Ph.D. in Finance awarded to a woman (1959). After Loyola University and Marymount merged in 1973, she remained at LMU's College of Business Administration, becoming a revered scholar and educator.

Her legacy includes pioneering contributions to finance scholarship and a commitment to mentoring female students. Two honors bear her name: the annual Fred Keisner Center entrepreneurship award and a scholarship for top finance seniors. She balanced administrative leadership with teaching, embodying academic rigor and institutional dedication.
