Martin Breed

Associate Professor Martin Breed is a leading restoration ecologist at Flinders University, specializing in soil biodiversity, ecosystem health, and genomics. He holds a PhD in Bioscience from the University of Adelaide and has held academic roles since 2015. His research focuses on optimizing urban green spaces, genomic approaches to ecosystem restoration, and acoustic manipulation of soil microbes. He is a course coordinator for the BSc (Biodiversity & Conservation) and actively engages in policy and public outreach. Notable awards include the Bradshaw Medal and multiple Vice-Chancellor’s Research Awards. His work bridges Western science and Indigenous knowledge, as seen in collaborative seagrass restoration projects in Shark Bay.
