معرفی
Martin Booth is a Statutory Professor of Electrical Engineering and Chair of Optical and Photonic Engineering at the University of Oxford. He is affiliated with St Hugh's College and serves as a Senior Research Fellow at Jesus College, with a College Lecturership at Lincoln College.
Education:
- MEng in Engineering Science, University of Oxford (1993-7)
- DPhil in Adaptive Optics for Confocal Microscopy, University of Oxford (2001)
Booth's research focuses on dynamic optical methods for biomedical imaging and laser manufacturing. Key areas include adaptive optics for confocal/two-photon microscopy, superresolution nanoscopy (STED, STORM), and adaptive laser fabrication for 3D structures in high-refractive-index materials. His group also explores diamond photonics, leveraging nitrogen-vacancy centres for neural activity sensing and quantum optics.
Recent articles highlight advancements in aberration correction, liquid crystal devices for beam steering, and multi-focus laser machining. Trends show a strong emphasis on integrating adaptive optics with machine learning for improved imaging precision and novel fabrication techniques.
Scientific Awards:
- Young Researcher Award in Optical Technologies, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (2012)
- International Commission for Optics Prize (2014)
- Elected Fellow of OSA (2017), SPIE (2021), and Institute of Physics (2021)
Booth's work includes advising DPhil students and leading projects like the Dynamic Optics and Photonics Group. His lab develops tools for 3D laser fabrication, neural sensing, and high-temperature optical fiber sensors, supported by grants like the EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship.
