Martin Andersson is a Senior Consultant Physician and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, Umeå Universitet. His research focuses on occupational and environmental lung diseases, with a particular emphasis on respiratory conditions in construction workers, asthma epidemiology, and environmental health impacts. He is affiliated with the university's epidemiology division and contributes to clinical practice in pulmonary medicine.
His work spans three decades of population-based studies on asthma, allergic diseases, and occupational exposures. Notable research includes longitudinal analyses of asthma persistence from childhood to adulthood, environmental traffic exposure effects on lung function, and biomarker studies for malignant pleural mesothelioma detection. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to address public health challenges such as socioeconomic disparities in respiratory diseases and workplace safety.
Dr. Andersson’s studies frequently utilize large cohort data, including 20-year asthma prevalence trends and cross-sectional surveys of schoolchildren. His findings inform clinical guidelines and public health policies on asthma management, occupational safety, and environmental health interventions. He is a member of the Health Humanities research group at Umeå, exploring interdisciplinary approaches to medical practice.
