Martijn Schenkel is a Researcher at the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences, University of Groningen. His research investigates evolutionary genetics with focus areas in:
- Evolution of sex determination systems
- Sex chromosome dynamics and divergence
- Genomic conflicts in housefly populations
- Theoretical modeling of evolutionary processes
His recent work combines experimental approaches with mathematical modeling to understand how sexual antagonism shapes sex chromosome evolution and influences transitions between sex determination mechanisms. Publications explore genetic conflicts at molecular and organismal levels.
Teaching activities include courses in Evolutionary Biology, Ecological Genetics, and Programming for Biologists. He has supervised multiple student research projects.
