Martial Taillefert is a Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on biogeochemistry, geochemistry of freshwater and marine environments, geomicrobiology, and dynamic biogeochemical modeling. His work integrates field studies, laboratory experiments, and mathematical modeling to understand trace metal cycling at oxic-anoxic interfaces.
Education: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Northwestern University, 1997), M.S. in Analytical Chemistry (University of Geneva, 1993), B.S. in Chemistry (University of Geneva, 1991).
Research Interests: Biogeochemical processes in sediments, redox interface dynamics, microbial-chemical interactions, and environmental geochemistry. Notable expertise includes in situ voltammetry, trace metal speciation, and sediment diagenesis.
Scientific Awards: NSF CAREER Award (2003), Petroleum Research Fund Young Investigator Award (2004), and recognition as an Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor (2007).
Lab and Facilities: Office located in ES&T 1238, with a dedicated lab (ES&T 1107) for geochemical analyses and field instrumentation. His group actively collaborates on projects involving coastal and deep-sea environments, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
