Martha Gledhill

Martha Gledhill is a Research Professor and Senior Scientist at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, specializing in marine bioinorganic chemistry. She completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography at the University of Liverpool in 1995 and has held research positions at the University of Southampton and University of Plymouth.

Her research investigates:

• Trace element iron and its role in ocean productivity
• Marine bioinorganic chemistry connecting elemental cycles and microbial metabolism
• Chemical speciation and interactions in marine environments
• Impact of ocean chemistry on biological productivity under climate change

Gledhill leads projects including NeuroMetals and EMS FORE, focusing on trace metal biogeochemistry and ocean-atmosphere interactions. Her extensive publication record examines trace metal distributions, organic matter interactions, and environmental contamination in marine systems.
