Marta Scaglioni is a Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of Ca' Foscari University of Venice. Her research focuses on anthropology, cultural studies, and postcolonial studies with particular attention to race, diaspora communities, and aging trajectories. She has conducted extensive research on the Egyptian diaspora in Milan, exploring care practices during the pandemic and generational dynamics. In Tunisia, her work examines racial identities among slave descendants and post-2011 political transformations.
Her research spans multiple geographies including the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean. She is fluent in English, French, German, and Arabic. Key thematic interests include postcolonial science, microbiology in Africa, and the intersection of race and slavery in Southern Tunisia. She has also contributed to interdisciplinary studies on waste anthropology and cultural reconfiguration in Africa.
Recent publications analyze Black Lives Matter movements, Maghreb noir art activism, and the socio-cultural dimensions of waste management. She has edited volumes on aging and care, and her work frequently appears in journals like CAHIERS D'ETUDES AFRICAINES and HAU.
