Marta Monjo

Marta Monjo is a Contracted Lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands, specializing in biomaterials and regenerative medicine. Her research focuses on the development of bioactive surfaces for implants, including titanium modifications to enhance osteoblast response and reduce bacterial adhesion. She investigates extracellular vesicles (EVs) for cell-free therapies in osteoarthritis, lung fibrosis, and periodontal regeneration. Collaborations include work with the University of Oslo and institutions in Norway and Spain.

Her research interests span biomaterials science, tissue engineering, and bone biology, with a particular emphasis on translating preclinical findings into clinical applications. Key areas include EV-based drug delivery systems for cancer and wound healing, and the design of functional hydrogels and coatings for biomedical use. Recent studies highlight the role of platelet-derived EVs in osteogenesis and the optimization of biomaterials for osteointegration.
