Marta Bonato

Marta Bonato is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computational Landscape Ecology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). Her research focuses on developing model-based approaches to optimize agricultural landscapes for multiple ecosystem services including natural pest control, water quality, and crop production.

Education includes:

• M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, Ca' Foscari University of Venice (2017)
• B.Sc. in Sciences and Technology for the Environment, University of Padua (2013)

Her research integrates landscape-scale analysis with GIS methodologies to address sustainability challenges in agricultural systems under climate change. She examines trade-offs between agricultural productivity and environmental conservation through spatial optimization techniques.

Publications demonstrate strong focus on applied landscape ecology, particularly developing practical solutions for sustainable land management. Recent work advances understanding of natural pest control mechanisms and climate resilience planning in vulnerable regions.

Currently part of the INTERCEDE PhD cohort, her work involves stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary approaches to translate research into actionable environmental solutions.
