معرفی
Mart Ratas (born September 4, 1990) is a researcher with appointments at King's College London's Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics (2022-2026) and Tallinn University of Technology's Department of Cybernetics. His career spans multiple institutions including University of Reading where he worked as a post-doctoral research assistant in causal discovery (2021-2022). At Tallinn University of Technology, he has held various research positions including Research Fellow and Junior Research Fellow since 2016.
Ratas completed his PhD in Physical Sciences in 2020 at Tallinn University of Technology with his dissertation titled Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Wave Propagation, supervised by Andrus Salupere and Jüri Majak. He previously earned a Master's degree in Engineering Physics in 2016 and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics in 2014, both from Tallinn University of Technology.
His research spans several interconnected domains with primary focus on numerical methods for nonlinear wave propagation, particularly using Haar wavelet techniques. His work extends into medical informatics as evidenced by his 2024 publication on NLP for healthcare providers, epidemiological modeling including COVID-19 spread analysis, and biorobotics through contributions to the U-CAT underwater robot project. His mathematical expertise in spectral analysis and nonlinear systems forms the foundation for applications across physics, engineering, and biomedical domains.
Analysis of his publication timeline reveals an evolution from fundamental mathematical research on wave propagation and nonlinear systems toward increasingly applied work in healthcare informatics and epidemic modeling. His recent publications demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary approach, bridging computational mathematics with practical healthcare applications, while maintaining his core expertise in numerical methods for differential equations.
Ratas has contributed to several significant research projects including the €1.225M Modelling of nonlinear wave processes in advanced materials (2021-2025), the €120K Monte-Carlo analysis of virus spreading during the pandemic (2020-2021), and the €843K Bio-inspired underwater robots project (2015-2020). These projects demonstrate his ability to work on both theoretical mathematical problems and applied engineering challenges.
His technical expertise spans computational mathematics, wavelet methods, and software development, with his current role at King's College London focusing on Research CogStack development. His work on the U-CAT biomimetic underwater robot shows practical application of his theoretical knowledge in robotics and control systems.
