Marsha Michie, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She serves as the
- Associate Director of the Bioethics Center for Community Health ANd Genomic Equity (CHANGE)
- Co-Director of the PhD in Bioethics Program
- Director of the Research Ethics Concentration in the MA Program
Dr. Michie earned her PhD in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, followed by postdoctoral training at UNC Center for Genomics and Society and Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. Her research focuses on social and ethical issues in biomedicine, particularly genomics, reproduction, disability, and health equity. Current projects include NIH-funded
- PREPARE (Prenatal Preparation: Actions and Results) study
- FAIRER (Framework for Advancements in Reprogenomics Ethics and Regulation) study
Her scholarly work explores stakeholder experiences in genomic research, including families facing genetic diagnoses, clinicians, test developers, and disability advocates. Key themes include informed consent, eugenics critiques, and the impact of laws like the overturning of Roe v. Wade on prenatal care and research. Dr. Michie teaches courses in genetics ethics, reproductive ethics, and research ethics, mentoring students across bioethics, genetic counseling, and medicine.
