Dr Marnee McKay is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Sydney School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. She serves as the Physiotherapy undergraduate Program Director, overseeing 32 units of study, and coordinates sports physiotherapy courses. Her leadership roles include co-chair of SEMCAN and leading the 1000 Norms Project Consortium. Additionally, she is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre and collaborates with institutions like Manipal Academy of Higher Education in India.
Marnee holds a Master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy and a PhD focused on neuromuscular disorders from the University of Sydney. Her research interests emphasize generating normative reference data for musculoskeletal and neurological assessments, clinical outcome measure development, and ethnogeographic variations in health metrics. She specializes in sports injury prevention strategies, particularly mitigating head and neck injuries through programs like FIFA 11+, and explores the relationship between physical performance and disability classification in para-sports.
Her recent work includes studies on the economic viability of ACL injury prevention programs, the impact of neck strength on concussion incidence, and the feasibility of online physiotherapy education during the pandemic. She also investigates pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain and its effects on maternal outcomes.

Her grants include projects like establishing global certification systems for clinical trial evaluators in Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and collaborations with international consortia. She also leads the Australia-India 1000 Norms Project and co-designs MyPainHub, an online resource for musculoskeletal conditions.
Marnee is affiliated with interdisciplinary groups such as the Neuropathy Research Group and the 1000 Norms Project Consortium. These collaborations focus on developing responsive clinical outcome measures and addressing human variation in health metrics across diverse populations.
