Professor Marlena Kruger is a Professor in Nutritional Physiology at Massey University's School of Health Sciences within the College of Health, serving as Associate Dean for Higher Degree Research and Doctoral Mentor Supervisor. With over 160 peer-reviewed publications, she is a world-renowned expert in lipids and bone health research.
Her educational background includes a Master of Science from Potchefstroom University for CHE (1980) and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Medical University of Southern Africa (1987), followed by post-doctoral training at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg and the University of Texas at Austin.
Marlena's research focuses on food-based strategies for maintaining bone and joint health and mobility in ageing populations, specializing in dairy foods, bioactive compounds, and lipids. She employs integrated methodologies spanning in vitro screening, preclinical models, and human intervention studies to translate findings into practical dietary applications.
