Marla Sarmiento (she/her/hers) serves as the Lab Manager and Researcher at the Moral Development (MD) Lab within Texas A&M University's College of Liberal Arts, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. A recent graduate from Texas A&M, she is actively preparing applications for a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, focusing on the effects of child maltreatment on development. Her work supports Dr. Midgette in participant recruitment and community engagement within the Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) sector.
Her research interests align with the MD Lab's mission to explore how individuals develop moral reasoning and justice-oriented behaviors. Key areas include familial care dynamics, gender inequality, future life expectations, and strategies for addressing social inequities. She contributes to investigations on microaggressions in higher education and moral transgressions in daily life.
Outside academia, Marla enjoys creative hobbies like embroidery, cooking, baking, and spending time with her two dogs: Bacon (a poodle) and Charlie (an Irish-Norfolk terrier).
