Prof. Dr. Markus Wallner serves as Professor at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Suderburg Campus, affiliated with the Construction-Water-Soil faculty and the CHH - Center for Hydrosystems and Health. His office is located in Building C, Room C 7, Suderburg, and he can be contacted via email at m.wallner@ostfalia.de.
Professor Wallner specializes in urban water management, water and sewage networks, hydrology in residential areas, and water supply systems. His research bridges engineering approaches with public health applications, particularly through wastewater-based epidemiology and intelligent water systems.
His recent publications demonstrate a clear trend toward integrating artificial intelligence with traditional water management practices and advancing pathogen detection methodologies in wastewater systems. The research spans environmental science, civil engineering, and public health disciplines with practical applications for urban infrastructure.
Professor Wallner currently leads multiple significant research initiatives:
- "Ernst-August mine water monitoring: Development of a continuous water quality monitoring system" (2024-2027)
- "Strengthening the research infrastructure of the Center for Hydrosystems and Health" (2024-2025)
- "Intelligent Water Systems - The Sewer Detectives; the search for multi-resistant germs in the sewer network" (2023-2026)
He is a core member of the CHH - Center for Hydrosystems and Health, where his work focuses on creating technological solutions for water quality monitoring and public health protection through innovative water management approaches.
