Markus Wabnegg

Markus Wabnegg is an Associate Professor at the Department for Management and Economics, Danube Business School, University for Continuing Education Krems. He holds a PhD from WU Vienna, where he also completed his habilitation, and has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at AAU Klagenfurt. His international experience includes visiting researcher positions at VU Amsterdam and study periods at Rotterdam School of Management and Bentley University.

His research focuses on the intersection of management accounting/control systems and innovation, examining how incentive structures influence R&D employee behavior, mitigate unintended consequences of innovation metrics, and enhance performance through hybrid work environments and AI-assisted systems. His work has been published in top journals like Accounting, Organizations and Society and Contemporary Accounting Research.

Markus has received multiple scientific accolades including the Péter-Horváth-Controllingpreis 2019 for his dissertation and student-nominated teaching awards. His methodological approach combines surveys, archival data analysis, and controlled experiments, with recent projects exploring climate-related decision-making and modern work contexts.
