Markus Mode

Markus Mode is Professor at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg's Seminar für Orientalische Archäologie und Kunstgeschichte, specializing in pre-Islamic Central Asian archaeology and art history.

Research Focus: His scholarship examines Sogdian art, religious iconography, and cultural interactions along the Silk Road. Key investigations include Sogdian temple art from Panjikent, metallurgy of Eurasian nomads, and Kushan-era sculpture.

Academic Contributions: Authored foundational studies on Sogdian historiography paintings, religious iconography, and cultural transfers between sedentary and nomadic societies. His work reconstructs artistic programs at sites like Afrasiab and Dokhtar-e Noshirwân.
