Dr. Markus Hunziker is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Baylor University, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics within the College of Arts & Sciences. He joined Baylor in 2004, previously teaching at Brandeis University (1997–2000) and the University of Georgia (2000–2004). His research focuses on representation theory of Lie groups, algebraic geometry, and combinatorics. He advises Ph.D. students and teaches a wide range of courses, from introductory calculus to specialized graduate topics.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of California, San Diego, 1997 (Advisor: N. Wallach)
- Dipl. Phil. II, University of Basel, 1993 (Advisor: H. Kraft)
Research Interests: Dr. Hunziker explores representation theory of Lie groups, algebraic geometry, and combinatorics. His work bridges abstract algebraic structures with geometric and combinatorial methods.
Publications: His recent publications (2004–2012) emphasize topics like conformal groups, Hilbert series, and symmetric spaces, reflecting a focus on advanced algebraic and geometric problems.
Teaching: He teaches courses from calculus to advanced topics in algebra, analysis, and representation theory, including teacher preparation programs. Notable courses include MTH 5310–11 (Advanced Abstract Algebra) and MTH 6V43 (Advanced Topics in Representation Theory).
Personal: Originally from Basel, Switzerland, he enjoys traveling, cooking, and family life with his wife and two children.
