Markus Grassl is a researcher at the International Centre for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT) at the University of Gdańsk. His work focuses on quantum information theory, particularly on SIC-POVMs (Symmetric Informationally Complete Positive Operator-Valued Measures) and their mathematical foundations.
His research interests include quantum state tomography, quantum key distribution, and the intersection of quantum information with number theory. Grassl has made significant contributions to understanding the connections between quantum measurements and algebraic number theory, particularly through the application of Stark's conjectures.
His recent work has enabled the computation of SIC-POVMs in extremely high dimensions (up to 39604) using permutation symmetries and Stark units. This research represents a major advancement in the field, bridging quantum information theory with deep results from number theory.
Grassl has collaborated extensively with leading researchers in the field including Marcus Appleby, Ingemar Bengtsson, Michael Harrison, and Gary McConnell. His work on Zauner's conjecture and the ray class field conjecture has provided new pathways for constructing exact solutions for quantum measurements in high-dimensional spaces.
