معرفی
Dr. Markus Frederich is a Professor of Marine Sciences at the University of New England's Biddeford Campus. His research program examines energy metabolism, stress physiology, and climate adaptation in marine invertebrates across diverse ecosystems, with specialized expertise in polar environments and invasive species biology.
Current research investigates thermal tolerance mechanisms in crustaceans under climate change, environmental DNA (eDNA) applications for invasive species detection, and metabolic adaptations in Antarctic species. His lab employs molecular techniques including transcriptomics alongside physiological assays to understand organismal responses to environmental stressors.
Research infrastructure includes the Saco River Biodiversity Observatory (TURBO), an LTER-style initiative enhancing STEM education through undergraduate research. Fieldwork spans Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, Western Indian Ocean, and polar research stations. Dr. Frederich's methodological innovations include FlowCam technology for plankton analysis and eDNA protocols for marine surveillance.
