Professor Markus Bindemann is a full-time faculty member at the School of Psychology, University of Kent, where he serves as Deputy Head of School. He obtained his BSc in Psychology from the University of Stirling (2001) and PhD from the University of Glasgow (2004), joining the University of Kent in 2010.
His research spans face and person perception in forensic and natural contexts, including eyewitness identification, forensic face matching, and person detection in complex scenes. He employs advanced methodologies like eye-tracking, virtual reality, and remote-controlled drones. His work also explores pupillary responses for measuring deviant sexual interests and species identification in conservation.
Recent publications focus on cognitive templates for face detection, dynamic approach-avoidance contexts, and face identification in crowded environments, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach combining psychology, forensic science, and human-computer interaction. Collaborative efforts with international institutions have produced 100+ peer-reviewed works.
