Markku Kiikeri is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Lapland, and holds Docent titles at both the University of Lapland and Turku. His academic work focuses on contemporary European politics, constitutional law, procedural law, and the transformation of legal reasoning. He actively contributes to European legal discourse through research on Brexit, EU policies, Sámi institutional rights, and legal history.
Teaching responsibilities include European Union Law (undergraduate and graduate levels), procedural law (master's), and philosophy of social sciences (doctoral programs). His interdisciplinary approach bridges legal theory with practical governance challenges, particularly in minority rights and multicultural legal frameworks.
Research interests span EU constitutional conflicts, international trade-environment policy intersections, and methods of legal interpretation. Notable recent work addresses Sámi legal identity, Finnish border security ethics, and the adaptability of constitutional frameworks to modern challenges.
Over 19 research outputs since 1999 demonstrate sustained scholarly engagement. His writings analyze EU legal systems, judicial decision quality, and pedagogical strategies for legal education. Collaborations with courts and academic institutions emphasize practical application of theoretical insights.
