Markieta Domecka is a Sociologist of Work and Employment at Roehampton University's Faculty of Business and Law, affiliated with Southlands College and the Centre for Sustainability and Responsible Management. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences from KU Leuven. Her research focuses on unpaid labour, working conditions, and the meaning of work across social classes, genders, ethnicities, industries, and countries. She teaches Employment Relations, Introduction to Management, and Business Research Methods.
Current projects include the 2024-2025 'Unpaid Labour and Mental Health' initiative (as Principal Investigator). Her work addresses platform economy dynamics, intersectionality, migration, and policy impacts on precarious labour. Recent collaborations span Belgium, Germany, Poland, and the UK.
Research interests emphasize socio-technical platform regimes, gendered precarity in creative industries, and emotional labour in healthcare. Outputs include peer-reviewed articles in Human Relations and British Journal of Industrial Relations, as well as books and commissioned reports for organizations like the OECD.
Teaching and supervision: Accepting PhD students in Employment Relations, Unpaid Labour, and related topics. Advising focuses on agency-structure dynamics, platform economy, and migration studies.
